Classic Banana Bread

Classic Banana BreadGrowing up, there were a few things that my mom made a few times a year that made me inordinately happy and one of those things was her Banana Bread. Honestly, when that woman made it–and she often surprised me–I would eat it for breakfast, pack it in my lunch for school, and enjoy some for desert after dinner. (For some reason, my parents would not let me eat it for dinner.) Whenever I would smell it baking, I was so excited.

Classic Banana BreadTaking this recipe out for a spin on my own was a first. I felt so close to my mom–as if all the miles just shrunk and maybe even the years too. As if I was the little girl sitting across from her waiting for it to cool so we could slather some butter on that warm banana bread.Classic Banana Bread

In this case, I made it for friends. Because I figured this secret out: part of the reason my mom made banana bread was to make me smile. That’s part of the joy in baking something special for someone and so I did the same, wrapping it up for some friends. Enjoy this classic. Some things are good enough, they don’t need to be fancied up.

Nina grew up speaking and eating Italian in the Chicagoland area. She moved to San Francisco for two years and, knowing she was always meant to be a writer, finally decided to share some of that writing with the world through blogging. There you will find her chronicling her adventures and misadventures (and isn't there such loveliness in mistakes and learning and growing?). If you ever go shopping with her, you will often hear her say, "We could totally make that!" Now, she is back in Chicago, with a real kitchen to cook authentic Italian food and other creations and space to do-it-herself. She finds it best to do all these things–writing, cooking, crafting, reading, adventuring–while laughing which is her favorite thing to do.
