When the dog days of summer arrive, which I know are just around the corner, some of the cocktails that we usually drink just seem a tad too heavy for the heat. I have to admit that we have already had some of those days here in South Florida and we’ve been sipping on Key Lime Pie Martinis and Cucumber Mojitos but I can attest to the fact that this Vodka Sunrise fits right in with these summer sippers.

It is a delightfully light and tangy cocktail that cools you off and quenches your thirst at the same time. When I thought about coming up with a refreshing drink, the first thing I thought of was lemonade but, mind you, I didn’t want just any lemonade! Upon spying an Italian lemon soda (Bibita Authentica Italia) in Whole Foods I knew that it would put my idea over the top. And I have to say, modesty withstanding, that it worked out fantastically well. Now I’m already thinking ahead to making drinks with their other flavors, Blood Orange, Pomegranate and Tangerine. Don’t they sound like they’ll hit the spot?

When I had my husband try this cocktail he said it reminded him of a Bay Breeze, a drink made of a combination of vodka, cranberry and grapefruit juice. And he was right, the lemon soda definitely lends a similar tangy, citrusy taste similar to that of the grapefruit. He said it just might become a favorite of his and I could make it again any time I wanted. I want!
Cheers!
